It is the year 1995. Prague´s recording studio
Hostivar is occupied by the pack called NEGATIVE FACE. The arising
demo-tape is called "In The Positive" and it is a project of the musicians
originaly belonging to different groups: Michal Knotek- Drums, Martin Misik-
Solo Guitar, Mara Miklanek- Vocal, Lada Hosek jr.- Vocal, Radous Svoboda-
Lead Vocals, Matej Lipsky- Guitars, Bass and Vocal.
Year 1996 brings the final and fatal decision. The project Negative Face changes into the regular band: Radous Svoboda- Lead Vocals (ex.EKG, Immortality which were in their time one of the first pioneers of doom metal in Czech republic), Michal Knotek- Drums (otherwise Erosion Of Sanity), Standa Dvorak- Bass (ex. Hermaphrodit), Martin Cermak- Keyboards (otherwise Demimonde) and Matej Lipsky- Guitars & Vocals. The group closes itself in the room and starts rehearsig songs for the first concert program, which is taking place on the 12th of December of the same year in the Prague´s club Prosek.
After this concert is Negative Face concentrating on the preparation of their first regular CD "The dance of the mournful clown". The recording is planned for February 1997. One week before the date Michal the drummer unexpectadly leaves the group for the family reasons. The time of the recording is postponed till September and the group is trying hard to replace the drummer,s post. First but not last is Jirka who did not even have a time to look around and is exchanged for Jenda Lopata. Shortly after him comes the girl-singer Klara Kalabisova (Lipska). The string of concerts is started. The NEGATIVE FACE presented themselves in the Czech republic and abroad along with the groups such as: VADER, PANDEMIA, DYSANCHELY, M.A.C. OF MAD, IMPERIAL FOETICIDE, GALADRIEL, MONASTERIAL CRYPT, PROMISES, SCABBARD, ANCIENT RITES, MYSTIC CIRCLE ...
At the beginning of the summer the bassplayer annonces his journay to the USA. Therefore the parts of the bass & drums are planned to be recorded in June. By the time the drummer leaves as well and is replaced by the ex. Masturbace drummer Martin Jandourek (also member of Sector X). The autumn comes and other problems comes along. The bassplayer Standa is not attending the rehearsials and because of the time shortage there is no chance to find another bassman. At the end the bass parts are recorded at the studio of Zdenek Sikyr by the guitarist Matej.
Among the staring musicians were: Martin Misik- Solo Guitar, Lada Hosek jr.- Vocal, Jan Zamecnik- PC music, Radek Sikyr - PC sound. After the recording the band is still trying to find regular bass player. Thanks to Pavel from Metal Breath Production is found the final member David Svoboda. Group is back on rails working and looking for the record company to produce the already made album. At the beginning of October the keyboard player Martin announces the unability to play all the concerts, because of the shortage of his time and agrees to play at least at the very important actions until the group finds someone to replace him.
During the year 1998 followed another personal changes. The band said good-bye to the singer Radek Svoboda and bassplayer David Svoboda and declared the competition for the new musicians.
In the year 1999 is the group NEGATIVE FACE completed by a new guitar-player Stepan Jandourek, keyboards-player Bara Tesinska, bass-player Ales Polidor and the vocals are song by the guitarist Matej. In the same year is finally released album "The dance of the mournful clown" on the CD/MC by the Melody Gardos production.
In the years 2000 and 2001 is the group again performing and preparing the songs for the new album "Stin (The Shadow)". But in the year 2002 is the group Negative Face again the project of guitar player and singer Matej.
He started preparing a new songs with 11 guests. The new album „Stin“ (The Shadow) already recorded in 2004. Negative Face were back with new material. They were looking for the record company again. In this time they´ve got a contract with label Élysion. New CD´s out now – get in touch !!!
A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE MUSIC AND PLANS AND NEW MEMBERS OF THE NEGATIVE FACE:
" We are trying to express the contrast conception of the modern underground music and other styles. In our compositions mostly predominates death/doom metal roots which we cross with jazz, folk, esoteric and even classic music, but you can find there also country, grind core, grunge, punk or street rock fragments. How suecesfuly we manage to do so is up on our listeners to decide. Our style is unidentified and that,s why we have invented the expression for it the experimental positive music."
The musicians of the NEGATIVE FACE are no beginners on the Czech music scene. They all played at different groups before they ended up with NEGATIVE FACE and used to played with many famous groups such as: ANATHEMA, VADER, MY DYING BRIDE, THERION, PUNGENT STENCH, BLOOD, SINISTER, NAPALM DEATH, KRABATHOR...on the same stage. In the year 2004 NEGATIVE FACE recorded a second CD "The Shadow". On this record will be presented non-traditional instruments such as the violin, fluet, saxophone.
